[#handbrake] Audio Track(s) GUI Feature Request

On #handbrake Christmas Night:

11:40:15 <PapaChub> I see the "Audio Tracks Panel" in the Mac GUI has gotten
(will get) a face-lift in 0.9.5 to support >4 tracks; is it rude to
suggest a related feature request? Instead of having to "un-'None'"
the extras, how 'bout check-boxes that start unchecked for all but
the first, so I can /see/ immediately if a title contains additional
         audio options?
11:41:01 <PapaChub> Or is/was that *such* a great idea, that's exactly what
         the devs drew up?

11:41:19 <GXavs> that would be good on windows too
11:41:44 <GXavs> though the might want to let you have the same audio twice
in different formats if you wanted to for some reason
11:41:48 <GXavs> *they

11:41:57 <PapaChub> Fair cop

11:43:04 <GXavs> i think it would be handy to have better info about the
         audio tracks
11:43:25 <GXavs> like the bitrate or file size or something to tell them
         apart when it can't
11:44:08 <GXavs> i'm having to go through and check in the log so i know i
have the main audio in first on some files

11:44:11 <PapaChub> Maybe add a checkbox, but keep the pull-down menu? And
always append "None" as the last entry in the list?

11:45:15 <GXavs> that would be good

11:45:44 <PapaChub> GXavs, A more involved solution would be to "Preview" ?
e.g., play ~6sec snippets from various points in the stream. But
I'm not about to suggest /that/ much effort without being able to
         actually code it up myself...

11:46:34 <GXavs> yeah, i wouldn't know how to make it myself

11:47:04 <PapaChub> Or instead of "None" maybe "Add..." or some such; HB now
allows you to import your own MP3 files, right? That'd be an
elegant UI solution for both problems.

11:49:21 <GXavs> well i don't really like how it is now (on windows anyway),
every time i go into the audio settings i don't think about it and
i assume if i change the settings at the top it will be changing
it for the yet-to-be-added track, and not the one that's already
         there
11:49:33 <GXavs> minor but annoying

11:49:36 <PapaChub> I can't post on #handbrake-dev (rightly so!) Can
somebody here cut-and-paste those comments into a Trac ticket,
         perchance?
11:50:00 <PapaChub> or Forum post?

11:50:39 <GXavs> how about a list of: [checkbox] [dropdown box]
11:51:02 <GXavs> each dropdown would have a different audio track by
default with only the top one checked

11:51:15 <PapaChub> *Precisely!*

11:51:16 <GXavs> you could check the others or use the dropdown to
         change them
11:51:18 <GXavs> yes

11:51:55 <PapaChub> (Wow! My half-baked ideas are rarely communicated
         so effectively! Heh)
11:52:28 <PapaChub> Usually I'd have to spend 45 minutes in PowerPoint
or OpenOffice Draw mocking up a [crappy] wireframe.

11:52:34 <GXavs> lol

11:53:45 <PapaChub> Like George Costanza, this is where I throw up my
hands triumphantly and go to bed. "I'M OUT!"

[After that, it devolved into Seinfeld jokes...]

---- 8< ---- 8< ---- Cut Here ---- 8< ---- 8< ----

11:54:02 <GXavs> lol
11:54:12 <GXavs> i was just watching seinfeld earlier too
11:54:36 <GXavs> the one where he goes back to recreate a scene so he can use a comeback he thought up later
11:54:49 <PapaChub> What a nice Christmas present that would be ? and it shouldn't be hard to implement; it's A) already being edited to add >4 tracks, and B) it doesn't require actual data processing ? it's just the UI.
11:55:02 <GXavs> "the jerk store called, they're running out of you!"
11:55:09 <GXavs> and yes that would be nice
11:56:52 <PapaChub> Heh! I was going to say, was it the episode where Jerry says something, and then Elaine and George repeat it with funny accents, and then Kramer says the same thing while shaking his hair?? I LOVE that (*ahem*) one.
11:57:28 <GXavs> i'm trying to think of which one that is
11:57:34 <GXavs> do you remember what he says?
11:58:58 <PapaChub> In six out of every eight episodes, I'm sure the dialog goes: [Elaine] "Can't Spare A Square" [Jerry] "Spare A Square?" [George] "You know, Spare a Square" [Jerry] "OH! Spare A Square!" [Kramer, Sliding In] "SPARE SQUARES!!"
11:59:19 <PapaChub> Cue the laugh track.
11:59:26 <GXavs> lol
11:59:28 <GXavs> yes
11:59:38 <PapaChub> It /is/ after all, just a show about nothing.
11:59:42 <GXavs> at least it's always a different thing/phrase though
12:01:35 <GXavs> these pretzels...are making me thirsty
12:01:47 <PapaChub> Were it on today, it would be about Leaking Wikis; I can picture Kramer saying "Zhooool-ee-ahn Ah-saaaahnge" then George saying, "Are you sure it's not Assan-djEY? [é] I always thought it was Assan-djEY"
12:02:20 <GXavs> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBrNkPyr8I8
12:02:40 <GXavs> well there was that reunion show of sorts
12:02:46 <GXavs> meta-show
12:03:30 <PapaChub> Not the same... They were right to cut and run at their peak, I suppose.
12:05:29 <GXavs> yes indeed
12:05:30 <GXavs> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7hSIIoyTKJA
12:05:43 <GXavs> that was still pretty amusing to see though
12:06:00 <GXavs> seinfeld talking about iphones and such
